The Power of Story

Stories are the bridges that connect our histories, our legends, our senses,
our practices, our values, and, in essence, our sustainability as people.

Carolyn Kenny

Through a story you expose listeners/viewers to a unique perception that may not have been heard before. When you have multiple stories a greater understanding develops and with this understanding comes true connection. If only one story is heard this becomes a stereotype, which Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie states “robs people of their dignity.”

Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess
and malign but stories can also be used to
empower and to humanize.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

So we encourage you, to take your own story, your perception, your understanding of the world and tell us your story. You can write. You could take pictures. You can make a film. You may want to do this with art. All methods of telling your story is encouraged. Adichie encourages everyone to expand perception as “when we realize there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise”.
